Hi All,
Started the last section of houses on the Market Place with the corner house.
This one is actually made up of three houses. The first photo shows the parts needed just for the main house. There's a lot of decorations on these houses needing some careful cutting.
Last photo shows the corner and some other completed houses.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Another side of the street is finished on the last section. These were a bit more trouble to build due to all the decorations on the gables and the way the houses were put together.
Only eight more houses to complete and the first part of the model will be finished.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Finally finished the last 8 house which now finishes the last section. The Marketplace is now complete.
Regards,
Fred
Some photos of the completed Marketplace set up on the supplied with the kit layout sheet.
Next up is the Town Hall.
Fred
What's he doing here?
This isn't the Minion Movie!!
Fred
Simply a great work, Fred!
Thank you, Helmut.

Hi All,
Back to Brussels and the next phase, the Town Hall.
8 sheets of about 300+ parts. 113 dormers for the roofs. Decided to use templets to the interior of the building for strength. Will do the same to the roofs. Don't think they will survive trying to glue all those dormers if I don't add some backing.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Added the roof to the building last weekend. Roof was totally reinforced with chipboard to take all the dormers. Yes, those white spaces are dormers.
Did manage to put 3 on the back together with a couple of small towers and chimneys, so only 110 more to go!
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Slow start but getting there. Back and one side now has dormers attached.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Well, back to dormers. Managed to get the top row on the front of the building completed this weekend.
First photo shows the 3 different size dormers for the front. Part 32 is the top row. Basically, all the dormers (marketplace and town hall) are constructed the same way.
Regards,
Fred
A very beautiful work, Fred!
Thanks Helmut and everyone who has used the "Thanks" button. It keeps me going with the build.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Jan, glad to see that you have joined the thread. It's been an interesting journey building this model.
Finished the dormers on the front of the main building this weekend. Decided to leave the towers till later and will start on the rest of the building next.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Another weekend and some more work on the model. Finished off the rest of the building and started to add the roof on Saturday. Added cardboard to the building walls for support, but decided the roof didn't need it.
BIG mistake! X(
Also constructed the roof as one piece. Another mistake. After glueing it on the building and it wouldn't fit right, decided to remove it. Lucky no real damage to the completed sections.
Reprinted the roof pieces and started again on Sunday. This time added cardboard to all the surfaces and glued the two wings first to the model before the large roof section was added.
One of the photos shows the one piece roof that was removed.
Now for some happier news, back to dormers.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Another update.
Finally completed all the dormers.
Added the small towers to the building and am now working on the main tower.
Regards,
Fred

This is so awesome.

Riklef
Thanks Riklef.
Getting close to the end now.

Hello,
it is just a pleasure to see the market grow. Very impressiv.
Ulrich
Thanks Ulrich.
Once the Town Hall is finished, need to find cobblestones for the base and have a few other ideas to finish it off.
Regards,
Fred
Hi All,
Finally the Town Hall now has the statue at the top of the main tower. This has been quite a build, but well worth it.
Some more photos.
Fred
The buildings are now all complete. Will still have to add cobblestones to the square and the streets and then maybe a few more surprises.
Fred
Hi All,
Some final photos.
Decided not to use cobblestones and used a light gray textured board instead. Added the Flower Carpet that is created every 2 years. These 2 are from 2012 and 2014.
Fred
Congratulations!
Your fascinating papermodel shows one of the most beautiful places in the world, I think.
Thank you Helmut.
I agree with you about the beauty of the Grote Markt.
I have become very fond of the buildings during the last eight months of construction and it means even more after the tragic and senseless events of yesterday. My thoughts are with the people of Belgium and especially Brussels.
I also want to thank everyone that used the "Thanks" button.
Regards,
Fred
Hello Fred,
thanks for sharing your construction report with us. It is an outstanding and absolut fascinating model you had build, hard to find yet. I´m eager to get this one, but the prices are running out of reality.
best regards
Robi
Thanks Robi,
It was just luck after a long time looking for the model. Kept checking eBay here and in Europe, but no luck. Zeist Bouwplaten had one for sale, but at 250 Euros just a bit too much. Also noticed that there was one on eBay in the UK that went for over 100 Euros but without the Town Hall.
Someone in the Netherlands on a now closed Forum mentioned he had an extra model, so sent a PM asking if he wanted to sell and my nephew in the Netherlands handled the transaction and shipping.
The cost was also fair to both of us. Well worth the money spent.
It is sad that eventually these models will be no more and lost to everyone.
Regards,
Fred
Hi Fred,
congratulation. It`s a really fine matepeice of cardboard modelling. Thanks for Your report and Your pictures.
Ulrich
Thanks Ulrich.
Going to try and take some photos at ground level and see how they come out.
Regards,
Fred
Hi Fred ,
it would be wonderfull
