One side completed
Hi
Most of the superstructure is done just a collection of square boxes I woiuld like to get a smoother finish to the sides still. Sea Sparrow and Phalanx guns form half the armour. the deck needs an overlay I made a real mess of the white areas changing it to black lines only more room for error.
Very nice work Barry! I understand that you are still building your own design? I have not seen any such kit around.
Good luck for your model and keep on with your nice work,
Matthias
Matthias
thanks for the kind words...still my own designs just like to try the ships which are not so popular luckily for me the next 2 do not have a sonar bulge.
Fore deck gun and 6 unit Sea Sparrow

Dear Barry,
thanks for your reply and keeping us posted on your interesting project! Yes indeed there aren't that many models out there for modern warships. But still there are some from WMV and HMV in scale 1:250 for American and German ships in the first place and one British ship and one ship from Singapore. And then there some models in scale 1:200 as well from eastern countries from some Polish publishers. Therefore I believe that your models of the Norfolk and now the USS Spruance would be of interest to many. In particular if one would offer them in an electronic format for people to choose printing them in their favorite scale could make sense for such more special models. Do you have any intension to release some of your designs to the public in the future?
Please keep us posted on your nice progress.
Best wishes,
Matthias
Hi Matthias
I am giving it some serious thought it's really a case of getting off my backside and doing the instructions and diagrams which I think is far more difficult than the design or build of the model.
regards
Hi Barry,
thanks for your thoughts and considerations! Yes, these days we got spoiled with 3D graphics in the instructions. But is does not have to be like that. One can also make very good instructions taking some photos from different steps and putting some numbers and text on them. You certainly have already some photos from your builds as shown here in the forum.
Best,
Matthias
Foremast up to the pole mast level and the base of the main mast I think these give this class it's main character' Tried soldering the masts made a mess of it so these are doubled up card (200 gsm).
At least it gives a good firm base for gluing to the deck.
Added the thin card overlays to the main forward deckhouses to lose the the horrible joins I made on the individual boxes sadly the colour register is different because I used different paper. Hopefully it will merge into the background given a little sunlight.
A request has anyone got a picture of the internals of the bridge or the hanger please
Looks nice Barry! Please keep on posting your progress here,
Matthias
Radar arrays on upper masts I think I will end up using a white bead for the fore radome.
Most of the upper deck rails are in place not as neat as photoetched but cheap.
Mast platforms finally in place
There are a hell of a lot of rails on this tub, now I have to strip off all the top rails because they look rubbish finally admitted my hands need 4 rails. Other than that it's very nearly done needs some odd fittings to break up the vast expanse of the upper works sides.
