Warhammer 40k Space Marine Dreadnought Mk V.

Dear all,

This is my very first post here, so please be patient :)

I am interested in science-finction and after seeing a model of Dreadnought from world famous desktop game Warhammer 40 000 I decided to make one from a paper.

Right now, it gots about 180 pieces (torso + engine + middle section). I decided to make dread from Blood Angels Chapter. It will be also available with Ultramarines color scheme and also as a blank model.

Here are some pictures...WIP

First try (I just wanted to know if I am able to do my own model):

And here is my second and final dread. Still working on middle section, legs and deadly arms.

Hope you like it!

Comments are welcome!

Hi Ing. Splendlik,

Show us more!!!

The legs are still white, does that mean you arent finished with you work?

This modell should stand on a baseplate to give it the right "frame".

Last but not least welcome to our forum and congratulation for your excellent work.

greetings from Vienna, Herbert

Thanks to all for your comments. I really appreciate it.

The first picture of white dreadnought is picture of the first model. It was made only for one purpose, if I am able to do my own model and if all parts are fitting together. Next pictures are pictures of second, colored model, which I am working on right now. This model is still WIP :) So that means, I am not finished with the work :)

The model will be available for download. When I finished this pre-test model, I will upload it on internet.
There will be three models available:
  • Blank templates (white model)
  • Blood Angels
  • Ultramarines
I am still thinking about adding other chapters to this list (Space Wolves, Dark Angels....)

Regarding the weapons: I am working on Powerfist (you can see it on first picture), Assault Cannon (also on the first picture), LassCannon, Missile Launcher and maybe AutoCannon (I don't have enought materials to create AutoCannon, so I am using pictures from internet). There will be a possibility to add "small" guns for powerfist - bolter or flamer. All guns will be made also for left and also for right shouder. This means you will be able to choose your own type of armament.

Hope you like it. I will add pictures of next steps in few days (middle section, between the torso and legs).

Once again thanks to all for your comments and welcomes.

Hello Ing. Spendlik,

your model of a Warhammer Space Marine looks really good!

Can you tell us what software do you use for construction and texturing?
Thanks!

Regards
Bernhard

I am not very experienced in making my own models. So you can find this way little bit long and some steps maybe useless. But this is how I created this dreadnought.

I use Rhinoceros for 3d model. According to real model from GamesWorkshop I created this robot in 3d. This program is able to convert simple objects to 2d templates, so it is very usefull for papermodelling.

After conversion to 2d I export these templates to AutoCAD, where I am able to make some final "touches" to the parts and place all parts to best fit to A4 format.

After that, I print it to the pdf format. For the first model, this was the last step. I print the pdf files and start to cut and glue.

But I wanted to have my dread in color and don't want to use airbrush. So I open pdf file in Photoshop (you can use any graphic editor, which is able to open pdf and you are satisfied with) and make it more eyecatching :)

Hope it helps...

Great model, but ...

Original von Ing. Spendlik
The model will be available for download. When I finished this pre-test model, I will upload it on internet.

Hope you checked with GW about this, they are sticklers regarding their copyright and trademarks and will shoot down "imitations" with bolters and lasguns blazing ... there is a lot of info on the GW website regarding use of names etc. if you haven't seen this yet ...

I think you are right. I have to contact GW. If the answer is negative I won't upload it. I don't want to brake their copyrights.
