ss United States - two versions

Two modernised versions of ss United States are now available at JSC. (JSC 050a, JSC 050b), scale 1:400.

We released two separate booklets, each with a different colour scheme:

1. "Ocean Grey" version – represents the ship at the height of its glory. The decks, in an elegant shade of grey-blue, symbolise the modernity and power the vessel exuded during its transatlantic voyages. It’s a perfect choice for enthusiasts of maritime history and the classic beauty of ocean liners.

2. "Weathered Green" version – depicts the ss United States in a later period, when weather and the passage of time had left their mark. The greenish decks reflect the ship’s natural aging, enhancing the realistic atmosphere of the scene.

Third and final part of the the SS United States model build has just gone live. In this episode, we focused on the ship's funnels. This is one of the most distinctive elements of the ship, which is why we dedicated a significant part of the video to it. The design of the funnels makes them very easy to assemble, even though they appear complex. However, if something goes wrong, the spare parts in the kit provide funnel skins for both of them, because we want you to be happy with the results!

And now 3 fun facts about the SS United States:

- during its 17 years of service at sea, the ship completed exactly 400 voyages.

- voyage 188 - October 1960, $40,000 was stolen from the safe where employees’ wages were kept. It wasn't until February 1961 that it was revealed that a bellboy had stolen the money and buried it in a park. Unfortunately, most of the banknotes were destroyed by rain and snow. The bellboy was arrested.

- voyage 331 - November 1966, a travel ban was issued for the first time against a particular passenger (Mrs. X). She complained about her accommodation, saying there wasn’t enough space for her luggage, and claimed that the bell and air conditioning didn’t work - though everything was functioning perfectly. She also complained about the unfriendly crew and the fact that some of them were coloured. She even complained about the other passengers. The United States Lines decided to ban her from traveling on the ship again, and all officers were informed of this decision.
