Steam tugboat "STRONGBOW" with side paddle wheels, scale 1:100, own development.

after completing the three purchased ship models that I have already shown you, the desire to make something of my own flared up. After a long search for something suitable, I came across the steam tug "STRONGBOW" with side paddle wheels. I like this type of steamboat, so I immediately decided to try to make it my own development.

Naturally, I was unable to find very detailed drawings of the original, but based on the photos I found of an already made radio-controlled model, I started.

Contrary to established practice, I did not start with the hull of the ship, but with the manufacture of the paddle wheels. In the following photos I show their implementation.

While I was making the paddle wheels, a fellow modeler from Paper Modelers sent me drawings of the ship. I could now start the hull of the ship.

I should note that this is the first time I have made a ship's hull. Drawing and cutting the ribs was quick and easy. But I glued them with thin cardboard and to prevent them from warping I reinforced them with angled inserts. This way, I think it turned out to be a pretty strong and rigid structure. I decided to make the skin from individual strips with a width of 4 mm. It gives an almost smooth surface. If I do something similar in the future, I will use thicker paper for the strips. This way it will be easier to get a good result after sanding.

The hull I made this way turned out to need relatively little putty. I was surprised by the good result myself. For putty I used ordinary wood putty. After some time of sanding, puttying and sanding again everything was ready for painting. Before that I glued the main deck of the ship.

Painting is not my weakness. And I have never had to go into detail. I do not have an airbrush, so I started with a brush.

After a few nervous nights, the final result is shown in the following pictures.

I am continuing with the construction of the wheelhouse and other rooms. . To strengthen the structure, I first build a base of 0.5 mm thick cardboard. Then I add the outer covering.

I had only one difficulty when building the model. For about a month I searched in vain for a suitable anchor chain for the model. In the end, I was forced to use what I had. This forced me to make the anchor windlass twice in different sizes. Now all that was left was to finish the model.
