[Kartonowy Arsenał] 3,7 cm FLAK 37 SdKfz 7/2 5~6/99 1:25

  • The work for exhaust pipes

The original design just uses the sheet of paper not a cylinder or a pipe.

I replace them with paper rods.

    And here are the results.

    Stephan,

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement.

Paper rods from cotton swabs work great. I like the texture on surfaces. Before coloring them, I didn't notice but they have cast-iron like surfaces.

  • Working on a truck bed

The original design has a error on sidewalls of the truck bed.

The outer surface part of the side walls is ~2mm shorter than it should.

This error is shown in the reference model too.

After more than expected works of tweaking parts,

  • The work for a cabin

The assembly instruction is not clear...

    Serious flaws here

    After another round of tweaking

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement.

I am putting armor plates and it turned out that every piece needs adjustment....

Very slow and painful progress....I hope I could finish building without major mistakes.

    Seo by the Bay

  • The cabin is mounted with a seat.

    Armor plates....

The assembly instruction is not clear.

The front Inner frame needs to glued first and the back inner frame should be put on the outer surface part.

And then the parts get assembled.

      .

  • Temporarily suspending the construction....

Before adding a hood and a radiator, I did fit checks...

And I found three major issues on parts....

The hinge (#70) and the hood are longer than they should.

The cabin is 5mm higher than the radiator....

I have to think what I am going to do with them....

  • Hello Seo,

that will be tough to tweak, but I am confident you can do it.

Will you remove the black slits in the front parts (img 9292)?

    KInd regards

  • Zaphod

Thank you so much for your confidence but I am losing my edge though.

I've been in my worst panic mode.......

About the slits.... good question.... I will deal with them later.

Those are more than 1 mm thick parts. I don't have clear solutions to cut them cleanly now...

    Maybe drilling?

    Seo by the Bay

  • Day 1 in a panic mode......

Instead of attacking all three issues together... I tried to solve the issues of height differences between platforms.

Adding 3.5 mm high extra frames.

    It looks OK...

I wonder whether this modification works with a fender... So I started building the right side front fender.

This is a BIG emotional mistake.... It turned out that the fender parts had many errors too, which put me in a heart-attack mode.

After overcoming so many angers and despairs, here is the result.

It certainly looks a lot better in photos. Oh my ....

  • Hello Seo,

    the fender itself looks fine.

Is it just a temporary fit?

Because there seems to be quite a lot of space between the upper end of the front wheel and the fender.

    KInd regards

    ;( ;( ;(

    It is permanent...

Huge height difference is due to

    1) I just raised the fender 3.5 mm higher to level the cabin and fender.

    2) I intentionally lowered the wheel to match with tracks.

I know it does not look good.

I will think about what I could do without adding the worst to the worse.

    Seo by the Bay

  • The left side fender is added and as Zaphod pointed out, the fender is lowered to reduce space between fenders and wheels. (Actually, wheels are raised to reduce the space). Thanks, Zaphod. It looks a lot better after modification.

  • Maybe after fit checks repeated more a hundred times,

    the hood parts were cut.

There was a gap so that I put a patch in between. Laser it turned out that I don't need one because hinges.

    Hinges

  • Hello Seo,

it definitely looks better with the fenders & wheeks closer together. Fine work at vthe hunges too.

The front armor plate is a strange part look rather improvised on the side of the Wehrmacht then.

Over all quite a numer of serious problems/mistakes for a kit from Halinski.

Thank you so much for your kind comments.

I also expected a lot more from this Halinski model.

But after I read this, now I am completely understood.

The English instruction came with the model Sd.Kfz.7 8-9/96. I don't remember when I bought but I might order it at a US paper model store long time ago.

This is the second page of the English instruction. I was planning the next model and I happened to read this instruction carefully for the first time.

    , translating this.

In the middle, there is a paragraph stating "The engine case covers need to be trimmed and cut along the seam line on both parts and left uncut only at hinges"

I assume 7/2 and 7/1 are just upgraded versions from 7. They (7, 7/1, and 7/2) are sharing many designs. That is, 7/1 & 7/2 inherited these custom cutting plan... Oh my...

Do you get it? It is not a mistake of the Halinski model. I was supposed to cut parts to fit.

    This is very encouraging.... ;(

  • The work moved on the Flak

    the gun platform

I don't know the name or function but they are adjustable

Gun mount parts on the truck bed.

    The platform is mounted. (Detachable)

  • The work for pneumatic actuators? or shock absorbers?

I am not sure whether they should be adjustable.

They will be connected to the main gun. I assume that they should be in order to adjust the main gun.

  • Those parts should be the main actuators for the vertical adjustment and form a three-point

mechanism to move the barrel up and down... I think... :D

Nevertheless, nice work, you make the best out of it. Remember this is an "early" Halinski kit, also a wild guess but

we should not transfer our quality expectations from a plane-kit to a vehicle...

  • Thomas Stickler

    Thomas,

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement.

Yes early Halinski models are different. Now I have learned.

I might want to try earlier models than 7/2.

  • Hi Seo,

    great work!

It is a pleasure to look at the pictures and see the great details!

    Cheers to the bay!
