[FERTIG] P-47d-25 Thunderbolt/Halinski/1:33

When Normans handle name was Airgoon he has successfully built this Thunderbolt and shortly after he started his build I started my build following his report but later stopped and forgot it.
Now, with the completion of some of in-the-middle projects I decided to resume its building
To date I didnt take much of photos as you can see here are only photos I took at that time
In assembling skin around cockpit there was a trouble adjusting coloring. The way I opted for was to just glue second segment as it is then painted yellow circled area with water color though those parts will be hidden under canopy frame and wing fillet.

Today assembled skin rear of cockpit area. Here I had next problem. According to the kit instruction, framer is to be glued first but to do so there are no openings for putting something which press gluing tab from inside. My solution was to cut framer segment by segment.
First, glue skin applying glue on several tabs at a time so that tabs firmly glued to the skin. Then insert cut out framer but I was aware the framer does not go inside because root is wider than opening of skin. So, cut out part of framer triangle so that they can be glued together in the skin.
But, I found out how stupid I am. Horizontal framer of lower part doesnt go in too. So, cut them out in pieces like jigsaw puzzle.
Anyhow, I have managed to finish this segment.

Now joint line between skins looks o.k.

Somehow I had mixed up the sequence of assembly and I had to somehow reverse-engineer the pieces to make them fit into the finished segments, similar to making a bottle ship fit into a bottle...
But all in all I'm sure you'll find this a very rewarding model, I know I did.

Hi Airgoon San. I have been looking for you for long time

When I was going to assemble oil cooler openings found out it does not go inside because of narrow opening as shown in picture 1. Then I hastened to visit your thread and what I found out was that you made as same mistake as I did
I should have gone through your thread before initiate my build

I have cut out hatched part as shown in picture 2 then insert oil cooler opening (picture 3). Finally replaced cut out part (picture 4)

Before I did these process I reviewed your thread and thanks to your well described thread I could avoid further trouble.

You won't beliave this but now your thread on Thunderbolt became indispensable my Bible and without it I have no confidence in my build

Last two pictures are after assembled skins around oil cooler openings. I was so absorbed in making model that forgot to take pictures on the process after inserting oil cooler opening's parts :rotwerd:

I'll try to live up to your expectation making reasonable degree of effort as far as possible...

First, make this circular part and placed it on the fuselage then glued outer skin

Next step is oil pan... Is it oil pan?

And placed it on the fuselage

Assembled framer.
After glued skin around framer, cut out yellow colored inside panel. Glued it inside of outside skin holding it with tweezer tip.

Today, I've made three sections for nose of fuselage.
The reason why oval shape framer has opening is that we can put something to press glueing tab firmly

Glued small parts, which has hole, onto bottom of fuselage

I also knew how I should have built my T-bird
I mean, thanks to your construction report I have been able to avoided unwanted mistakes but in return I havent squeezed my brain hard because I didnt need to. One of pleasure in making paper model is to fiddle around with it thinking in one way and another even though we make mistakes and then finally we will have a sense of satisfaction

Today's work is cowling

I've rounded up narrow strip of red colored paper using round bar
Tomarrow I have to modify inside of cowling...

Thank you Peter but today I knew I am not only crazy but also stupid.
I forgot to assemble exhaust pipe unit before assembling front part of sections.
To assemble it I had to cut out openings on the forefront framer then put the parts through there.
Of course to assemble it I had to cut out some of framers inside to let parts get inside
Anyhow I managed to assembled them

Next build is air intake inside of cowling
Assembled squid like air intake then glued it inside of cowling

Today's works are railings on both side of inside cockpit, small parts behind pilot seat and engine base

Pictures are before final assembly of engine, after final assembly and after putting cowling on it

Propeller of Jug is imposingly large. Seeing it I want to listen to the sound of powerful engine so start engine, finally full throttle.

It seems I became genuine crazy. I cant stop making model every day.

Today's work was only canopy.
From time to time we have to cut inside canopy frame short to adjust the size but this kit fit is perfect

Glued front canopy in position but I just put rear canopy on the fuselage to see what it would be to have a canopy

Today's work was tail wheel.
To make wheel, first, cut out thick cardboard into dougnut shape then files with sand paper. Fill dent with instant adhesive then filed again. Finally painted black lacquer.
Because it is small, filing wasn't enough....

Today assembled horizontal tail and tentatively put tails on the place

My camera seemed to have been out of order so I took picture borrowing my wifes camera but color tone was different from real model.
Having checked my camera I knew lens was tainted, removed stains and took picture again.
This color tone is similar to real model.

Seeing my model I noticed something missing but I was busy assembling parts after parts, day in, day out so I didnt pay attention.
Now I knew what I should do.
I whipped through that cowling modification whipping the dog and whipping Japanese tea (Is this usage correct? Thanks to Dan I learned idioms including word whip)
Oh, appearance became better!!!
Now Im in the mood for jumping whip, step juuuuummmp.
I look duuuuuumb :rotwerd:

Actually I havent glued tails yet. I always fix wings first then fix tails adjusting angles relative to wings because to adjust angle of tails is easier than to adjust wings.
I will assemble fillet later. Please stay tuned
