[Abgebrochen?] Focke-Wulf Ta 183 - SPI - 1:33

  • Hi all

While waitting for glue to dry on my ship model, a thing I hate to do.
I tought I would have a go at building this new model from:-
Scale Paper International (SPI) This is the only place you can get this model, below is the link to the site:-

    http://www.e-papermodels.com/catalog/index.php

    The model has: -

    Eight pages of parts.
Two pages of good construction diagrams.
    The scale is 1/33
The graphics on the design are very good also
It comes as a download format for 5.50 euros, for a 1/33 model thats a bargin.
It also has full cockpit detail.

This version does have a swastiika on the tail, but I have been told a swastika free version is on the way very soon.

The photo below is how I would like mine to turn out when built .
This model was built by "Raimund Kelterer" from this site and is the photo used on SPI's site. I think this is a very good build by Raimund very well done.

So far I have started to laminate the formers and will have some of the build to show tomorrow

    Regards

    Rob

  • Hi all

Not much done tonight, the laminated formers are quite dry enough to cut.
But I did get a start on the cockpit section of the build.

The printed detail in the cockpit is very good, this does make it easy for those who like super detail to add a lot of extras to the kit :)

More as soon as the formers are dry

    Regards

    Rob

  • Hi all

Tonight I finished off the cockpit and formers for the wheel wells and bomb bay.

Also started the skin for this section, this is a very tricky bit with the build as it has lots of large and small holes cut in it. It also has an inner skin that goes together in a lap form.
You need ten fingers on each hand and a few clamps to hold it all while you glue the inner skin down :))

The best way I found to do it was to cut out a few of the holes to line it all up. Then glue it all down like wallpaper, making shure the skin has been glued down without twisting.

When this has been done leave it to dry, if you don't it will rip.
    My first one did ;(

  • The last for tonight.

When it is all dry and the holes cut out, the cockpit section slides into the skin (shown with a blue arrow)
The white part the yellow arrow points to forms part of the inner skin for the cockpit.

One error I did make while building this is, I laminated the cardboard to 1mm and it should have been 0.75mm

Another thing is when you order this plane from SPI you can now get it in the Swastika free version, just ask for it at: -
    http://www.e-papermodels.com/catalog/index.php

More as soon as I can

    Regards

  • Hi all

Took a bit of time to get back on track with this build!!

I printed the rest of the parts on my new printer, the colour tones turned out about four shades darker.
So the whole thing had to be rebuilt from scratch

I now have it back to the way it was and finished some other work on it.
The photo below shows the wing spar fitted.

After you cut out the spar parts you will need to turn one over so as to make them fit.
When you build them if you have the number shown in yellow facing up and one down you have it right :)

Also mußte ich alles neu baue.

  • Parts of the wheel well doors and the finished part.

These have just been cut out with no test fit and no edge colouring.
All I have done is glue them together and then rolled the parts in my fingers.
The fit of the parts in this kit is that good no trimming is needed to fit them :)

  • One good thing about the rebuild, it gave me the chance to fix an error I made fitting the linners for the wheel wells :(

I fitted the linners the wrong way round, the wheel struts should be at the back of the bay not the front!!!

The blue line shows the right position

    More later

  • Hi Joseph

I glued some small fishing weights to the back of the air intake with super glue. I should have added this to the thread.

Thanks for reminding us all about weight for the nose, we don't want them sitting on there bum :)

    Rob

Edited once, last by jrts ().

  • Hi all

Added a few more bits tonight.
The second wing and part of the tail section.

So far in the build I have not had a single part that did not fit right :)
    Its great when that happens!!

    Next
