T28 1:25 DrafModel

Another kit from DrafModel. DrafModel has proven to be one of the best designers. The Pak40 and the LeFh are both something I call a 100% kit.
Everything fits....no need to trim any parts. very few designers can beat this.
So my expectations for this T28 are really high. I will also give a lot of thanks to Rafal for this great model!!

When starting a new model I also have a chance to clear my workshop a bit...
First pic shows the desk at the final stages of the P51...second pic shows present stage!!

So the build starts with a fresh workbench.

The hull was first out.
Drawing

Frames put together. This will as we can see be a big model :)

Hi Johnny...

I have built this model as well! But I forgot to make a building report! :(

So I didn't make any Photos. I'm nearly ready. Only the tracks have to be made. That, and the Wheels (12x4= 44) each made out of approx. 12 Parts, is really a hell of a Job!

And one thing: the two smaller towers are not mirrorred in my model! Is it the same with yours?

eventually i will take some photos of my model so far. Is it okay to post them here?

bye droddl

Hi Droddl!

I'm not sure if the small towers are mirrored, have to check it out.
And of course you can post pics of your t28 here!

The towers are not supposed to be mirrored. As can be seen on the attached pic.

Thanks Josve...

That's good news. It would be interesting, why thay aren't mirrored.

Here are some pics of my T-28. It is my latest work, and i have to say that i'm a bit proud of it. It's getting better every model you build.

In the last picture you can see all of the wheels and the connectors, which i still have to make!

It's not easy to say why they arent mirrored, but I guess it's 50% more easy to have one turret to make parts to :)

You defenately have built a great T28!! Thanks for showing!!

Just one thing...dont overdo the rust thing.
Here is a shot of a real one.60 years old,and it's not very rusty.

The turrets are not mirrored because it is cheaper to build and support only turret type, so you are absolutely right. Another example, look at an Abrams, the driving lights are not mirrored either. This will be a fascinating build to follow.

Continuing with skinning the hull.

Also started on the front hatch, that looks like an escape tunnel!

Parts to fit in the gaps under the upper leadwheels....I'm going to need an awful lot of nuts....

I now have got some waterbased color mixed in my local colorstore :)

Started on the turret.

The drawing

The assembly of the frames for the main turret went very well.

Next was the top skin that will be covered on the sides with another skin part.

Top skin is on, and the flips are bent over the rounded edge and glued.

Next was the side skin....the other part will be glued tomorrow.

All stiffeners for the sideskirts are done.

And in between I'm placing nuts and bolts......

Yes I have a colorstore here :)
I just bring the kit with me to the store and they scan the color and makes a perfect match. The drawback is that I have to buy 0,5 liters every time :)
So you can say I have a few cans with paint........

Nice to hear from you again Josve!

My T-28 is short before finishing. I just have to make the tracks!

After I tried to make them bit by bit, I gave up just after two pieces and immediately I ordered the laser cut ones! Much easier now! ;)

Pictures will follow after completion...

Front turret machinegun port.

Drawing

When I looked at the drawing the port first looked a bit tricky to make.
It's half way sunked into the turret.

I cut out the parts and glued the 3 pieces together.

I also had to cut a hole in the turret to have the port fit in.

And when I put the piece in....of course it fitted :) hey! it's a Draf Model!!

Gun and outer plate mounted

The main hatch.
Now I got use of the tiny screws I got a year ago!!

Back from the north sea for some days now, and have been doing some paperworks.

Finished the turrets and machineguns. Started to put on some weathering and dirt and rust pigments. It will be smeared more out when its finished...

Wheels...This front wheel should be more picky than i thought...built up of thin paper with not much strength. So it was very hard to get the wheel straight and in line with itselves.

The drawing shows some of the complexity of the wheel

All made of the thin paper

And then it was all those small 0,3mm rods to be used..

I drilled small holes in all the way around and put the rods inside

And so i used 5mm rods for spacing and maintaining the same distance all way around

Also started to make some tracks...
