Schlachtschiff HMS Hood / Halinski / 1:250 [FERTIG]

Hi All

Left putting the pictures here until I thought I could overcome the fit problems on this ship (bought on Ebay and apparently the early version).I made a bit of a mess of the hull to start with but I think I have covered most of that up. Nothing is actually glued together properly as yet, gives me a chance to alter it some more if necessary. Scaling the ship down lessened the problems as I expected to have to cut and stick in some odd places. Now it begins to look like Hood I am happier.

gruss

An Escort for Hood

Hi All

I got a bit fed up modifying Hood and moaning about so I decided to make my own mess and try designing a ship myself and anyway Hood needed an escort.

Tribal class fleet destroyer HMS Eskimo 1/250 circa 1938 as L75 I did not quite get the bow plates right hence the gap at the top. Rob sent me some more detailed plans which shows the errors on my guesses at the deck houses but a tin paper overlay should fix that.

Ipicked this type as it was a fairly simple design without too much deck clutter.

Hopefully the next redraw will see it somewhere near right.

:usenglish:
Hallo zusammen,

Now I understand why you have asked for plans and fotos on the "Eskimo".

I am looking forward to new fotos. With best regards my friend.

Hood's escort

Hi Friends

This is still not worth a section in it's own right as I am still learning as I go along, the trouble is if I use the mouse too much my fingers will not roll cardboard so forgive the rough building. The decks have all been overlaid several times so the edges are lifting. I need to design a 4 barrel pompom next also the gun is borrowed from HMS Savage to check for fit and will need to be a one piece barrel. The Vickers 4.7 " gun has an overhead rammer which will cover any detail on the gun breeches so it will be a lot simpler.

Hopefully I will sort out which photo program works the best for me and then if anyone is interested I will try to put a theme together. I've had a great deal of help from Rob and Maurice over on cardmodels.net and not least the plans from Narod.ru

A couple of photographs before I start rebuild 2.

Hood and Siatki

Hi Friends

Finally finished the main guns and stuck a few more bits down and the sun was shining so the camera worked more or less.

I bought Siatki ($45 US) from Gremir models yesterday for designing deck houses for ships or buildings or railway trucks etc it is extremely simple to use and produces instant results bit like having a "just in time" factory order.

It is well worth downloading the the free trial.

Hallo Barry,

Looks super. Unbelievable how you built this model despite the many problems (i know the Halinski model you use has a lot of mistakes). My greatest respect!

Hallo,

Eskimo last of test build

Hi Friends

The kindest critic would describe this as "rough as a bears a**e" and having tried all the bits I think it's time to apply what I have learned getting this far (further than I expected). Then rebuild it with more care.

My apologies for confusing everybody which theme this is.

Time to finish off Hood

If anyone has any pictures of a Tribal class destroyers deck fittings I would be grateful to have them. Thank you.

gruss

Hallo Freunde,

Danke.

Hi Friends

Vent details around "B" turret.

Question

If anyone has built this ship are the vents around A turret just tightly rolled paper tubes or are painted headed pins better please

Hello Barry,
You can use everything of course:
Paper, if you are a paper-purist or pins, I don't find only that property on reason the spherical head so, or just like I that does I see picture, that paints everything, with corresponding color,

With the best greetings
Christoph

Hi

I was not in the mood to cut a lot of wire gun pieces so I added the ships boats at least they make the deck look more interesting.

Hood gun barrels and bits

Hi All

I got a good tip from CRS on cardmodels he suggested using a piece of plastic tube cut from an old ball point pen to the length of the gun barrels. It worked extremely well I stuck it vertically on to a piece of scrap card, pushed the wire down and snipped it off at the right length, the added bonus is it stops the shrapnel flying round the room. Having my usual trouble making cardbord steps I seem to need something with an edge like a Samurai sword. I made the bollards out of electric wire insulation, my fingers are getting too stiff these days.

gruss

Hood rails

Hi All

Nearing the end of the slow job of fixing the ship's rails it would have been a lot easier if I had thought to bore the stanchion holes before assembly of the pieces. There are 250 seperate stanchions to fix I used used PVA glue mostly but used UHU Superglue gel to fix the "king posts" to get the tension on the cotton.

I made the initial holes with a lancet needle and then used a round headed pin, I held the thin decks with a flat pair of tweezers to avoid bending the edges

Hood crosstrees

Hi Friends

On the last part of Hood now the rigging and a few odd bits I am searching through all the cut up pages for.

Just in case I drop the soldering iron onto the decks while doing the rigging I have put some ridiculously large pictures on the net so you have a choice.

Eskimo is in some of the pictures mainly because I want (one day) to do a seascape of her bunkeroing off Hood, even though it would be enourmous plus Hood had a couple of Tribals as a screen.

Hood not far to go

Hi Friends

The rigging using the wire from computer flat cables was not a great success it is very difficult to pull it straight (nearly impossible) but having glued it into the decks with superglue I was stuck with it, hopefully it might sag under it's own weight. The spars were too thin too take any tension which did not help. I guess I will have to learn how to pull plastic. One more uploader gun for the front turret and some paint and hopefully then it will be finished. She is a bit battered in places due to my problems in handling this size model and the time it took to build. If I stand well back it does not seem so bad.

If anyone has any suggestions for rigging I would be gratefull.
