Santiago de Compostela; Merino; 1/400 [fertig]

My next model will be my second building. It is the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela scale 1:400. The model is printed, if I am not wrong, 18 sheets slightly larger than A4 and has only 197 pieces. Only 197 pieces they are misleading as I quickly discovered when I started the first cut. Because most of the pieces are quite work to cut what will make the model takes longer than expected. The print quality is good but it can not be said that the graphic quality is very good and it seems that will result in the end of mounted. I think that is the reason for the quality somewhat outdated is that the book of the model have the date of 1993 and it is so then the model is very good.

Yes, it was and still is the final destination on 'The Spanish Road' for many pilgrims.

Tino, forgive me for jumping in with completed pictures. Here is a website developed some years ago that features the shrine. My tabletop photography was not very good back then.

I am positively surprised by the detail level on a such small scale kit (1/400) 8o
Tino you are firmly performing two tasks at the same time: making a beautiful model and putting the kit on my wish list :D

Hi Tino,
To you and through you to Ricardo, this is one of Merino's nicest models. It is visually stunning when complete. The enclosed cloister area adds shadow and drama to the inner spaces. The cathedral is steeped in history as well. It is the destination point for pilgrimages from all over Europe.

Great work Tino!

John, you may find it fun to know that I live in Póvoa de Varzim, in north-western Portugal, and that is little more than 150km from Santiago de Compostela. There are, mostly in Spain, many roads with signs for the pilgrims, marking them as ‘Caminho de Santiago’, or Santiago pathway. A couple of weeks ago I made a small bicycle trip with some friends in the northwest of Portugal and Spain as well (Caminha / Vila Nova de Cerveira / La Guardia) and noticed some of those marks!

Thank you John for your kind words.

I can say that I already went to Santiago de Compostela one time!
I am thinking in returnig there, maybe this year.
I live even closer from Santiago de Compostela than Ricardo, in Ponte de Lima, or better at about 9km from the center of Ponte de Lima that it is the oldest village of Portugal.
Other curiosity is that were I live is exactly were one of those pathways exists. Its commom to see many people passing in were by foot or in bicycles (many bicycles at Sundays).
Im gonna post somme pictures from Ponte de Lima.
The first is mine the others are on the web.

Tino, you know that my rating for Merino changed a lot for the better with Burgos. The model you have just completed is another 'must have'.
It doesn't have so many parts but the detail level is great!
Congratulations for your build :super:
