Sagrada Familia

Hi all,

Started to build the Japanese version of the Sagrada Familia.

Scale is 1/300 and has 35 sheets. 12 sheets are already die cut and scored, but the registration is a bit off on some sheets. Not a real big problem. The book was bought used and came with a crease on one corner.

I've shown some of the sheets and instructions. No text just line drawings but easy to follow so far.

Glued the base to 0,5mm greystone foam board. Size is 51mm x 41mm.

Regards,

Fred

Here's some more pictures of the initial building. So far everything fits great. The main building with folds was pre scored and die cut. Both were a bit off but I don't think it is noticeable. Final fit on the base was perfect.

Next the eight towers.

Did the first one according to the instructions, but found too many problems with all those little tabs. Cut them all off as per the photos and used glue strips instead. Worked much better.

Photos 1 and 2 show with tabs and tabs removed.

Last 2 photos show the eight towers completed and installed.

Finished one of the entrance ways last night.

So far happy with the way the model is progressing. Most pieces fit together without much of a problem.

Photo 1 shows the parts that make up the finished entrance.

Have discovered, however that there are some pieces that need cutting so when folded, pop up or stand out. Had to do a bit of surgery on 4 column bases when attaching the entrance facade after realizing a couple of the sculptures needed cutting on one side to glue to the other side of the sculpture on the facade.

Will pay more attention to this detail in future. Lesson learned. :D

This brings the build up to date.

Hi Fred,

Great work and an interesting and unique model. Thank you for sharing! If you particularly enjoy this scale there are several other highly detailed kits available from various publishers.

Kind Regards,

Cris

Thanks Cris,

Unfortunately, I enjoy the larger scales and have quite a few kits sitting in a pile. I've also printed out the Canon Sagrada Familia at 145% (A little bigger than A3) and may build that next just to compare the two.

Next is the other entrance that I put together yesterday. These parts were already diecut and scored. Not sure if I like that since it takes just as much time to cut the connectors and clean up. Needs to be done from the back, otherwise you cannot see the cuts.

Regards,

More photos of model in progress

Hi All,

Managed to work some more on the model on Sunday.

Attached are photos of the perimeter buildings and towers. So far the model has gone together quite nicely with very minor problems, mainly due to my inexperience.

Do not like the pre diecut sheets. Would rather do the cutting and scoring myself since you still have to cut the connectors and clean up the parts. Double the work.

Another Sunday

Hi All,

Another Sunday and some more work on the Sagrada Familia and photos.

The perimeter is now complete and also 4 more towers.

Now I can finally start on filling in the center of the model. About another 15 more sheets to cut out/punch out.

Sagrada Familia Update 2

Hi All,

Here is the start of the central tower. The top will be finished later.

Also shown is the first of the four smaller towers that are attached to it.

Also some photos of the model so far. The center parts will be glued finally in place once the towers are finished and I'm sure everything fits in place.

Hope to finish the model next weekend.

Another Sagrada Update

Hi All,

Another weekend and more time to work on the Sagrada Familia.

Finally nearing the end of this build. The last two towers are complete and the Passion Facade is the only thing left to do (parts shown on last photo). Should finish that today.

Found there was a problem with the front tower. It was supposed to fit into slots that held it up, but this just did not work. Instead, I built a support (see brown cardboard) that solved the problem.

Thanks Cris.

Just a little repair to make to a column that does not look right and some final photos to post.

Then to decide on another model to build.

Fred
