Puerta Nueva de Bisagra / Merino / 1:150 [FERTIG]

The 'New Bisagra Gate' is the subject of a 1/150 kit by Ediciones Merino. It is a Spanish stable that concentrates on ... Spanish sites in their 'Coleccion Grandes Monumentos'.
Kit quality is not tip-top and the computer graphics are rather simple but, nevertheless, they make up into interesting models. I enclose a picture of the real thing, another of the kit (12 A4+ pages plus instructions and color covers) and a third one of the first assemblies - the towers. Note the use of card bits, hollow squares, to fix the bottom and top to the desired shape.

Hi John, nice to hear from you ;)

Open structures are almost always prettier than closed ones. The top of the towers are, in my view, no exception to this. They take up their share of the parts but assembly is easy.

The inner gate has several assemblies that will be placed in a row. I found the instructions less than perfect. The parts are numbered but they don't tell where to glue them. You have to look at the diagrams and read the instructions but that may not be enough - some nearly simmetrical parts can be rotated 180º without conflict with the instructions but with consequences on the model. I'm not completely sure to have made it all right...

Recessed windows are a hallmark of Erkotyp but Merino also uses them to good effect.

A rather repetitive and boring work to make the top of the walls linking the two main buildings.

Thanks John, rkelterer and Jan :)
The model is not far from complete. Today, I enclose some pictures of the front building, during assembly. I didn't follow the written instructions but that's almost always the case with me ;)
The front wall, between the two round towers, was a bit too wide. I had to cut the tabs and trim it. It was glued onto card bits that were put in place before. This eliminates the risk that some glue could spill to the round towers while positioning that wall and I think it looks better this way.

I only came in time to see it ending.

Well, yes, I am a rather quick builder :P
At the moment I'm starting with a small Scheriber-Bogen model - the 'Altneu Synagoge Prag'. It is a model drawn by Richard Vyskovsky and, as a consequence, looks like an Erkotyp model. That is not bad because I very much like Erkotyp. Hopefully, I'll have some construction pictures next monday.
