Hummer Ambulance / Modelik / 1:25

The package from Modelik arrived the other day, and I have decided to try to build the Hummer Ambulance.

I assume that you scan the book, and store the books for later use, or do you cut directly from the book?
This will be a work build...that I will try to accomplish in the quiet hours at work when I'm on nightshift.

Johnny, what I do with a card-book before starting a build is:

- to scan all pages incl. booklet /for my e-archive only/
- to search on internet for pictures of real cars, trucks....
- both data sources are stored on 1cd on which I am adding all images from build to have complete documentation
- to make 2 Black-White copies /if need some part to make twice or to use some parts to glue on the original parts to make more plastic - increase layers and to have still control over parts completed and to be completed
- to open bauberichte on forum..... :D

about models you received:

- if you are going to make Schwimmwagen - I wish you good luck - I had some troubles wtih fit of basic body - not succesfull project
- if you are going to make Hummer Ambulance - I have made only frame till now /but going to continue with this project, since going to make Iraq convoy support version/, very detailed basement of car, but not complete engine - looking forward for your results from the build
It is normal to own ORIGINAL

Got a knifeset,dremel set, and a mat,plus some piano wire from 0,6 to 2mm
still waiting for some hole making tools and a circle cutter and some karton.

Here are the tools I got today.

And here are the beginning of my ambulance.

Another nightshift....and some more paperwork done.

First I finished the headlights

Next was the passenger's seat

Seats mounted, pedals and gear sticks

Next was the steering wheel...
Instead of making it as the book suggested, I cutted out a circle of 1mm karton
And of course I had second thoughts about this part...

But I managed to drill o,6mm small holes in the center roll, and also managed to glue the tiny 0,5mm wires to it

And the result.....

So now I smile and thinking I did a good job with this part

RE: Modelik, Nr. 8/01, Hummer Ambulance, 1:25

Making of the underside was not as easy as it looked...so I ended up making two of this part...
But here are the shots
Looks like this in the book

And after some assebly, and learning from the errors I made on the first attempt,I decided not to glue it completely together before the cockpit is mounted inn.

And the result when almost finished is fairly good.
Should I try to paint it?

And when it will be assebled together with the cockpit and the rear part it will look something like this

I don't know for sure how many rivets I'm gonna use, but it is several hundreds....
And I'm not going to paint the upper body of the truck, just the underside.

Now it was time to start to "cover it up"

I had to start finishing the inside.

Got the roof in place, and started to glue the frame around the doors.
Note the frame is not glued on this pic!
Also glued the interior into place

Mounted the cockpit and made the cockpit roofing

A sad day......

I have now come to a point that made me recocider the continuing of this build.I have made the desision to start this build all over.I'm not satisfied with my work at this point. When I came to the point where I should assemble the bodycover, roof, sides, bottom and rear cover, nothing seems to fit properly.
So I have to start over again.....will continue this thread when I come to the same point in the building process :)

Now I'm pissed!!!!!

Back on nightshifts....time to work on the Hummer again.
This time it was the back stairs.

The drawing...And a lot of parts to cut

The finished result....It looks a bit twisted...so I'll make it over again tomorrow I think....have to keep some kind of standard

The Hood

Had a quiet shift at work this morning and I made the hood.

It contains a lot of parts, and seemed a bit tricky to get it mounted.

First step ii to get the main part assembled
here I have cutted out the parts for the first step

I replaced the "papernet" with my own blackpainted gaz because I think it looks a lot better.

I got it mounted, and are ready for the next step. This step also involves a lot of parts....

The first side done

Both sides finished, and if I get a quiet shift tonight I will try to put on the smallest parts. That is if I can stay awake.....

The end

I'm now quitting this project....
The parts does not fit good enough.

When I got to the front window section

As you can see, the front window itselves takes all the space
And still there is another part to be placed on top of the window.
I found out that the space between the roof and the dashboard is over 5mm too short.

I tried to make the space bigger by cutting off the top part of the dash, with no luck. The sidedoors does not fit properly either. So it didn't look very good...
I measured the space in the book, and it's the same result.

So I'm moving along to the Kubelwagen......

Hi Johnny,

I feel with you but don't see it as a disapointment, it's seldom to make failures twice only others. So as Joerg said learn from mistakes, luckily you have a scan as I read.

All the best for the Kuebelwagen, look foreward and not back.
