Hello Friends,

@ Rene, Ulrich, Peter and Gloomy: My friends, thank you so very much for your praise! I profoundly appreciate it! But, I believe you all made me blush!

And Gloomy...better sharpen that scalpel :D (Ha!, I was just looking at that lovely wing and aileron again and I am certain I can see the data plate with the part number inscribed)

Sincerely,

Hi Cris,
what a work to build all these crates. It takes a lot of patience. Good idea to show the pencils. I will see if I can get them here.
I live in a small town in which our tools is hardly to get.

Can we be sure that Chief Harbourmaster Cris is not just colouring the Hamburg Archiv photos and showing these to us? Can we really be sure?

Best wishes

Hello Friends,

@ Alle: Thank you so very much for your kind words and praise!

No progress to report. However, Mia and I were able to attend a wonderful lecture by Herr Noßke. See his website here. See the Eisenbahnmuseum Kötzschau website here. Herr Noßke, besides being a modellbahn enthusiast, collects brochures, maps, and flyers from the 1900-1940's. The art from that era is unique and very beautiful. He brought a collection of original items relating to Hamburg Hafen that we took great pleasure in browsing though...really holding history in my hands so to speak. His lecture was fascinating (even though sadly we could only understand common phases, etc.) and I highly recommend it to any that may be in the Saxony region.

In the next post I will share some pictures of one of his unique Hamburg brochures.

Historical Regards,

Cris

Hello Friends,

The keel for the Schwan has been laid! But as you can see, the poor foreign workmen have placed the aft-most deck house facing the wrong way! But, the Port Authority has a good supply of doors and will correct the issue in the future.

Hi Cris,

I cannot believe that your locomotive is the same that I built some years ago while trying to assemble a decent Hafendiorama (I was not successful until this very day ...) - what a gem! The Superungen look just brilliant!

Looking forward to seeing the SCHWAN grow now.

Cheers .... Wolfgang

Hello Friends,

So a little more progress on the Lufter and various deck fittings. I added the bollards at the bow.

@ Wolfgang: My friend, I could not disagree with you more. Your Hafen report was a great influence on me, and greatly enjoyable to read. I wish my work was as sharp and clean as yours. I am glad the work on the lok shows though, it seems like I spent two full evenings on it.

I hope everyone had a pleasant Easter with their families.

for the construction of Your diorama I wish You a big hunk of endurance. I know for myself such a construction place is a never ending story. So you have to decide where to finish and wait till there will be new energy to continue and to continue further.

Dear Friends,

Because I want my Schwan to be different from the many others I have seen and because the diorama is more concerned with 1930's Hamburg generally, I have made a slight change to the Schwan. I choose to add a yard on the foremast to fly signal flags from and added a navigation light.

I am flying (reading top to bottom and Port to Starboard), BZ "Well Done" and (blushes, ever the romantic) my significantly better half's name. I hope you will indulge my little artistic fantasy.

Kind Regards,

Cris

Hello Friends of the Combi Freighter!

The Schwan now has most of her fittings onboard and the workers can Step the Masts and begin rigging. I enclosed the Navigation Bridge with cigarette paper canvas and added a freshwater tank and ladders to the funnel housing. Piet and the HMV Team did such an excellent job on the Schwan, there is hardly any room to add details.

Kind Regards,

Cris

Hi Cris,
wonderful pictures of Schwan. A smal advice for photgraphing background. One picture shows two dark wedges on the right and the left side. To avoid this I bought long time ago a roll of photograph cardboard like profis use. This is a roll some meters long an 125 cm broad. For it#s a roll i8 inserted an axe a little bit wider than the roll and screwed two hook left an right into the celler ceiling. So I can roll as many cardboard as I is tke to shoot pictures.
But of course we work at a hobby.
My blue photo background is made of DIN A 3 Fotokarton taped together using Tesafilm on the rearside.. You can produce a background so broad an long as you want to have.
But the first version is the more elegant one.
With the best regards
Ulrich

Guten Morgen!

Last evening the port Authority conducted a covert commando raid, boarding the Willem van Oranje, and temporarily placing her under our Flag. The Port Authority was then able to dredge the Hafen. Of course we returned her to her homeport immediately!

Below, is the second coat of water. It appears the Hafen is in the midst of a Category 5 storm, but this is because I am still working the mixture. It requires several passes with a brush in order to shape the surface of the water.

More, less stormy pictures this evening.

@ Thom, Ulrich, and Mia: Thank you for your kind words and Praise! Ulrich, I am sorry I will not get to meet you.

Kind Regards,

Hello Friends,

After nearly 14 months, the Hafen is nearly complete. Here are some pictures that show the progress so far. If anyone is interested I used clear sealant mixed with thinner and a few drops of brown and green paint to make the water. Over the course of a couple of hours you can work the mixture to achieve the texture you would like. Next, are the crew and passengers for the Schwan and more cargo including some mail bags for the mail boat.

@ Ulrich: Yes, looking at yours, I am always amazed at the size and scope of our small creations.

@ Werner: Thank you my friend for your always kind support. I am so very excited about meeting you at the end of the week!

Kind Regards,

Cris

Moin Cris,
great work!
