So I finally managed to finish something. I have gotten really rusty and clumsy-fingered, but the 1:25 Druine Turbulent is finished, in time for my grandson Love's 6th birthday tomorrow. I hope he'll like it.
It was very interesting, this experiment in enlarging. The sheets and skin parts are just fine, a credit to Krzychu, the designer. The trouble is, his exact design in 1:100 creates some problems in 1:25, four times the size. Since paper thickness should be proportionally four times thicker as well - which it isn't - it turns out that all formers are a very loose fit in this scale.
So it took several layers of extra paper strips to make the bulkheads fit reasonably well. The next time I enlarge something this much, I'll know better, and redesign the formers & bulkheads right away.
Also, at this size, the model could have used a few extra ribs. But that should not reflect on the original model.
I bungled the windshield, trying out a glass glue (basically, I think, very thick white glue). It was difficult to apply thin enough, and also didn't adhere all that well. Also I didn't make too good a job of the spinner.
But I think Love will not notice too much, and in any case he is very forgiving.
Prop and wheels rotate. Landing gears are floral wire inside plastic tubing, painted with gouache (yes, it is possible to make it adhere, with a little effort). The whole thing is sealed with gouache varnish (alcohol based). Finish is clear matt varnish (water based).
