Fliegerfilm "The Bridges at Toko-Ri"

Hallo Leute,
The Bridges at Toko-Ri

Wollte ich nur mal festhalten.

Gruß
Jan

RE: Fliegerfilm "The Bridges at Toko-Ri"

Yup, read this book as a boy, in the Readers Digest "Condensed book" series. It was hard on the aircraft engines, though. Skyraiders overheating and less operational hours. Seemed pretty documentary, that part.

I, too, bought this film about a year ago. I was mostly taken by the helicopter type, which I always loved. It is the Sikorsky-Westland Dragonfly. Haven't found a good paper model for that...

The sound of the helicopter in the film was kind of disappointing, though, don't you think?

Can't remember if there was a scene in the film where the hero (William Holden) gets the jitters before his assignment and goes down below deck to stand just centimeters in front of where the steam-driven catapults come to a sudden stop when launching aircraft above. Supposed to be good for the nerves to watch certain death plunge towards you and stop an inch in front of your face.

Got me as a boy; not as impressed today, and I don't think it was in the film.
