[Finished/ Fertig] CardPlanes PWS-10 in 1:33 scale Prerelease Build

First, this is the first time I have started a thread here and as I have seen various other threads in english, hope there is no problem. I only speak english and spanish.

I have just received from Lech at CardPlanes (Model Kartonowe)a pre-release copy of his latest design, the PWS-10 Chiquita/Pavipollo and he has graciously allowed me to show the build and final pictures.

The model is well designed as all of CardPlane models are. The package consists of 5 sheets of construction diagrams, 2 sheets of formers on 80gsm paper and 4 sheets of parts on 160gsm paper (all A4 size):

As this is not the release version, the aircraft descriptions and information were not included. The construction diagrams are ecellent and very easy to follow. The model has well over 200 parts. The cockpit is extremely detailed and the textures are excellent with weathering. All in all, this looks to be an outstanding kit.

I have started the build process by gluing the 2 sheets of formers/wheels and various other pieces to 0,85 heavy card. The next progress post will show the first cuts and assembly.

Well here we go with the first cuts. The instruction diagrams are divided into alphabetically designated sections, so section A is the after internal structure.
The pieces cutout:

The assembled after structure. Everything fit well together. The Symbol sheet Lech sent says to use 0,7 to 1,0 mm cardboard, I used 0,85 and I recommend that you use closer to 1mm for a tighter fit:

On to section B, the cabin structure. Here are some of the frames cut out:

I will be continuing with the cabin of the plane which is very detailed later today.

Looks great so far Dave. I look forward to watching the sneak peak for this kit before it hits shelves.

And while I can't speak for everyone, I've personally never found only speaking English to be a problem on this forum. Most of these nice German gentlemen are much smarter than lazy American's like me who only know a single language. At least you know Spanish and English Dave. That's a one-up on me.

Maybe if I take a few more semesters of German in college...

Hello all, haven't been in over the weekend, but I have gotten a bit more of the interior completed between visits from friends and neighbors.

I left off with the basic frame pieces for the interior cut out, the next step is to attach all of the trim strips and wire cross braces:

The opposite side is built up the same. Here are the frame pieces together:

The next part to go in is the pilots seat. The small frame in the front of the picture is made of wire, the pieces in paper are part of the model, but my fingers do not roll small tubes (these are less than 1mm) well. If you wish to roll these pieces, I recommend copying them on plain paper to make the rolling easier. Here are the parts, assembled and mounted in the framework:

Hallo to everybody.
I've been enjoying Modele Kartonowe (they are wonderful always) and I'm very interested in PWS-10. Last February I managed to download the drawings but I could not find presently the formers and parts.
DavidESP, was it a special favor from your friends at Modelel Kartonowe or am I too stupid to find the downloads?

Hello all. Sergio and Fred, I was mailed this by Lech at Modele Kartonowe, and I really don't know if it will be a commercial or free offering. Maybe he will stop in and let us know.

Well, I've finished up the cockpit except for the machine guns. First I installed the controls:

These are the parts for the instrument panel and front bulkhead:

Here are 2 shots of the completed cockpit attached to the after fuselage.

Next step are the machine guns then start covering the framework.

David, muchas gracias for the explanation.
The model looks like being 'terrific', with lots of details, definitely not for beginners.
As a matter of fact all models by Modelel Kartonowe are super detailed. I remember the landing gear of the Rata being a masterpiece by itself.

Hello and thanks guys for the comments. Yesterday afternoon and evening I got the machine guns made and mounted and skinned the aft fuselage.

Here are the parts for a machine gun and a couple of shots of both mounted:

Next I cut out the gluing strips and the cockpit interior walls and installed them:

Hello everybody, I've been busy the last couple of days and didn't get much of a chance to update, so decided to do that now while I have a few minutes. The wife and I are waiting for family to arrive for the weekend, so I don't think I'll get much done over the next couple of days.

Went to work on the nose section. The first step as always, is cut out the formers. The ones on top are for the fuselage, and the ones on the bottom of the picture are for filler pieces that go inside the nose section:

These are the filler pieces prepared and assembled:

The next section, in the last shot, you can see one of the filler pieces installed:

All of the sections together, and a side view so you can see how the filler pieces provide color and depth to the cutouts. The large holes have cover pieces with louvers in them:

The next steps will be attaching the engine head covers and other small detail pieces to the nose section.

Hello David. I have followed your build, and noticed that you are relatively new here at this forum (I've seen your work previously, in US forums). I do hope someone has said hello & welcome properly. It is good to see you here, too!

I do envy your position as retired in Spain - although at the moment I think the temperature up here in Scandinavia would almost match yours down there! (Quite a difference though, a few months ahead; I already shudder and cringe...)

Hello everyone. After a long and busy weekend with family, I was able to spend sometime yesterday and today and got the fuselage almost done.

First steps were the machine gun slots and some small filler pieces that go inside of the engine head covers:

Next I glued the two sections together (note the high tech clamping devices in use):

Lastly, the windshield, headrest and edging strips around the cockpit opening:

That completes Section D of the instructions and tomorrow on to Section E, which is the wing.

Hello all, got one section of the wing framing put together today, here are the formers cut and ready to fit:

And after some minor touch-ups, glued together:

Great fit on these parts, the touch-ups were to make some minor adjustments for my initial cutting. These wings are typical of Lech's latest designs, robust and strong. They remind me of the balsa wood and paper models I built when I was young.

Tomorrow, finish the other half and hopefully start covering.

Hello everybody, just a quick update of what I have done on the wings.

I built the opposite side of the wing, no pictures as it is the same, and the center section which joins them. Here is a picture of the pieces for the center section and the section together:

Here is the wing assembly without the skin ready to be covered:

As you can see, the internal structure of the wing is extremely strong, as are almost all of Lech's designs, you would almost think it was a flying model. Next step, is skin the wings.

Nice work, David. I was browsing the GPM site last night and noticed that Answer publishes a PWS-10 in Polish markings. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has built that model and could compare it to the CardPlane version.

Hello all, after a busy weekend, and some modeling done, it is time for an update. Chris, I'm not sure, I really haven't looked out there for the model, just actual photos.

Now for the update, I covered and attached the wing and here are the step by step photos:

At this point, I noticed that there are some small parts shown on the 3 view diagram page that are not in the construction diagrams and they mount under the wing on the fuselage. They will be hard to mount now. Tomorrow I will try to mount them and point them out on the pictures.

Hello everybody. This week has been rather busy and I haven't had much time for the internet. I did do quite a bit of model building.

Next section is the landing gear.

Here we start with the main axle:

These are the pieces for the struts, I substituted wire for the long thin paper strips as my fingers just don't make tubes that small ( less than 1mm), in any case, the piece is covered by the wider long pieces and only one tip shows:

I also cutout and glued the wheels together so they wil be ready for sanding later:

These are the shock absorbers, and a layout of the assembly:

While the wheels were drying, the cutout, assembly and attachment of the tail skid:

Lastly, the entire landing gear installed:

Not much left now, the radiator, some fuselage details, ailerons and the propeller. I hope to finish them up in the next days as I will be going awwy for 2 weeks on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks Fred, in this case, I'm following the instructions step by step with as little deviation as possible to verify them. but normally I do the same. If the instructions say to do the tail first, then I do it first, if it's the wing, then the wings. I tend to stick to the instructions and part numbering order unless I see a glaring error.

I really enjoyed building this well designed model. The model requires very exact cutting and pre-fitting prior to gluing do to the precise design and fit of the parts. Take a close look when this one comes out, I think you will really enjoy the build.

Thanks everybody, I haven't really decided what is next. Right now, I'm working with some older models that I never got around to finishing up.

Yu, I spend about 3 to 4 hours in the afternoon/evening on my models so the builds go relatively fast.

Fred, the prices are great and the freebies for the most part, are just as well designed. Also, lots of extras on the web page for some of the models, just look at Chris's build.

Chris, that's probably the reason the plane never really went into combat use. It was mostly used as a trainer both in Poland and Spain.
