Hi,
Since I finished my PAK40, I started to build a diorama for this model. To give you an impression about my building progress, I will post some pictures now and then.
The PAK you can find here: Pak 40 (GPM) Deutsche Afrika-Korps
As in the diorama of the T34/76 I started with a base plate of foam. On which I positioned the model just to see how the final diorama will look like as you can see in the first three pictures.
Then I cutted the base plate in shape (making the edges smooth and cutted out some parts where the wheels of the PAK will be.
Because desert sand is quite loose, the wheels will sink a bit into the sand. This I forgot in my T34/76 diorama, therefor it looks like the tank is hovering a bit above the surface giving the impression that the tank has no weight. In the tank diorama I can not correct this anymore. But as you all know, after every model you are a bit more experienced
After cutting the base plate I covered it with paper and a mixture of woodglue and water (4th picture). For more details see T34/76 on a field road somewhere in Russia
Because there is not so much variation in color (the sand, the pak and the clothes of the figures are yellow), I will add some vegetation in the form of a palm three and some grass.
The palm three is made out of a plastic tube around which I rotated some wire (last picture). Finally the trunk is also covered with paper and woodglue/water micture. The leaves are cutted from the leaves of a fake silk flower. The grass is made of the hairs of a paint brush and will be painted green (I will even add some more grass).
Finally I will build 2 more figures Soldatenfiguren in 1:25 (one loading the pak and one aiming the pak) and when everything in glued to the baseplate, I will cover the complete baseplate with sand.
