After sortting out the formers and the hull this is the stage it got to before it dawned on something was missing from the design

If you look at this photo you might note that the superstructure does not have enough portholes in the right places and not a single hatch
I should have noticed this before I got this far =)

Also at this stage I was starting to have thoughts about the colour of the decks, are they right or wrong???
Well after some checking I came up with, they are wrong. As far as I and a few others I checked with the decks should be a light teak colour???

This next photo shows the aft hull plates in position.

If you look at the top you can see the plates have formed straight lines and not the curves they should be??

To cut a long story short I ended up ripping of all the hull plates and deck and adding twice the number of formers to the model. Also some extra struts between the formers as well just to be shure I would not have to rip it all off again

Well here is the first bit of the build just to bring those who have not seen this on cardmodels.net upto speed on what has been done!!

Remember pillows at the ready as mightly bored you will be =)

When I first got the kit I jumped for joy as anyone will tell you I love big models and this is big.
After cutting out the formers and setting a few in place I had this thought that the gaps between each former was just a little big

If you look at the photo that is a 45cm rule lined up with the bow going aft, the lack of formers would cause sagging in the decks and hull plates. I still went ahead with the kit as designed.

Once I had some of the hull plates and deck on I found it did not have the strength to hold the shape of the plates

Its a little work of art and love, even more so when you look at the size of it.
I have been looking over the 1/100 scale connie you sent me and it will be hard at that scale never mind 1/250. Keep at it me old mate and I look forward to the next post of how she is doing.

The competition does have a few rules but they are to make it fair for all standards of build skill to have a chance of winning!!
It is for heavy armour, half tracks, artillary and rail guns ect, the light transport vehicles (jeep's, trucks will have another competition soon)

Hi all

Got this bird from Nobi and not having a lot time to build over the last few weeks, I have been build aircraft.
If you are in to kits that fit great ,look great and are easy to build then you must try Nobi's models if you have not already.

Jan is right about it being a decent U-2, I had no problems with the fit, I did not even have to trim a single part to make it fit 8)

Most if not all Nobi's models can be built in a day and look like the real thing when finished, for me thats what makes them so good

I won't start a new thread as Nobi has done such a great job on his build, just a few photo's of how mine looks at various stages of the build

Hallo Zusammen,
ich habe dieses Modell von Nobi bekommen und da ich in letzter Zeit nicht viel Zeit zum Bauen hatte, habe ich mal ein Flugzeug probiert. Wer Modell mag, die super passen, super aussehen und einfach zu bauen sind, der sollte mal Nobis Modelle probieren, sofern ihr das nicht schon getan habt.

Jan hat Recht damit, daß dies mal ein vernünftiges Modell der U2 ist, Ich hatte keinerlei Passprobleme, ich musste kein einziges Teil zuschneiden, damit es passt.

Die Meisten von Nobis Modellen kann man innerhalb eines Tages bauen und sie sehen aus wie das Original, wenn sie fertig sind. Das mag ich so daran.

Ich werde nicht extra ein neues Thema starten, weil Nobi bei seinem Bau einen so guten Job gemacht hat. Ich zeige nur ein paar Bilder von meinem in verschiedenen Bauzuständen.

Danke für ein weiteres fantastisches Modell, Nobi.

Mike Krol at GreMir models is great to deal with, the service they offer is fast and very reliable.
I have all ther WWll ships and some of the planes, soon to add more of the planes to my collection

The kits come in CD format as the photo shows, these are the ones I have just built or building now. The P-61 "Lady in Black" is going through my printer right now!!
The download section is for some computor programs they also offer.

I would not hesitate to recomend GreMir Models to anyone and the Rafal Clesielski kits are fantastic in colours and fit.

Mike Krol bei Gremirmodels ist ein super Kontakt, der Service den sie anbieten ist schnell und verlässlich. Ich habe all ihre Kriegsschiffe und einige der Flugzeuge, von denen ich bald noch mehr in meiner Sammlung haben werde.
Die Bausätze kommen auf CD, wie auf dem Photo zu sehen. Das sind die, die ich grade gebaut habe oder die in Arbeit sind. Die P-61 "Lady in Black" läuft grade durch meinen Drucker!!
Auf der Downloadseite finden sich noch einiges an Software im Angebot.
Ich würde nicht zögern, jedem Gremirmodels zu empfehlen und die die Baubögen von Rafal Clesielski sind fantastisch hinsichtlich Farbgebung und Passgenauigkeit.

The author of the model was Rafal Ciesielski, those that built his kits before know how good they are.
So much so that my next plane build will be his P-61 "Lady in the Dark"

I had to have a brake from the large scale ship models for a bit.

Given the chance to be the first to build this very detailed kit was an offer I could not turn down

As the build had to be done as quick as possible I must stress that I have only built the basic model and not the very detailed kit.

You can build this with full cockpit, wheels, movable control surfaces and a very and I mean very detailed engine. Iam building this now as another build to display outside the aircraft.

This first photo is to show how good the fit is, if you take time to cut the parts out some don't even need glue. The section between the yellow lines was never glued even in the finished model it fit that well 8)

Hallo Zusammen,
ich brauchte mal eine Pause von großen Schiffsmodellen. Das Angebot diesen sehr detaillierten Bausatz als erster bauen zu dürfen konnte ich nicht ablehnen.

Da der Bau so schnell wie möglich von statten gehen musste, muss ich betonen, daß ich nur das Basismodell und nicht die ganz detaillierte Version gebaut habe.

Das Modell kann mit komplettem Cockpit, Fahrwerk, beweglichen Rudern und einem sehr detaillierten (und ich meine sehr) Motor gebaut werden. Den Motor werde ich einzeln bauen um ihn getrennt vom Modell darzustellen.

Dieses erste Foto zeigt die Passgenauigkeit des Bausatzes. Wenn man sich genug Zeit nimmt, braucht man nicht einmal Kleber. Die Sektion zwischen den gelben Linien wurde nie verklebt, weil es auch am fertgien Modell so gut passte.

Würde man dei Schneidmatte wegnehmen und einen Hintergrund einfügen, könnte man nicht mehr sagen, obs ein Modell ist.

I glued some small fishing weights to the back of the air intake with super glue. I should have added this to the thread.

Ich habe ein paar kleine Angelgewichte hinten an den Lufteinlaß geklebt - ich hätte das erwähnen sollen. Danke für die Erinnerung, wir wollen ja nicht, dass der Flieger später auf dem Hintern sitzt.

One good thing about the rebuild, it gave me the chance to fix an error I made fitting the linners for the wheel wells

I fitted the linners the wrong way round, the wheel struts should be at the back of the bay not the front!!!

Eine gute Sache des Neubaus ist, dass ich eine Chance bekomme, einen Fehler, den ich beim Anbau der Fahrwerksschächte gemacht habe.

Ich hate die Teile falsch herum eingebaut, die Streben sollen am hinteren Ende sitzen, nicht am vorderen.

These have just been cut out with no test fit and no edge colouring.
All I have done is glue them together and then rolled the parts in my fingers.
The fit of the parts in this kit is that good no trimming is needed to fit them

Diese sind erst ausgeschnitten, noch ohne Anpassung und Kanten-Colorierung. Ich habe sie nur zusammengeklebt und zwischen meinen Fingern gerollt.
Die Teile in diesem Bausatz passen so gut, dass man sie nicht anpassen muß.

Took a bit of time to get back on track with this build!!

I printed the rest of the parts on my new printer, the colour tones turned out about four shades darker.
So the whole thing had to be rebuilt from scratch

I now have it back to the way it was and finished some other work on it.
The photo below shows the wing spar fitted.

After you cut out the spar parts you will need to turn one over so as to make them fit.
When you build them if you have the number shown in yellow facing up and one down you have it right

Hat ein wenig gedauert, bis ich mit diesem Bau weitermachen konnte.

Ich habe die restlichen Teile auf meinem neuen Drucker gedruckt, dort waren die Farben ca. 4 Schattierungen dunkler. Also mußte ich alles neu baue.

Jetzt bin ich wieder dort, wo ich schon einmal war und habe etwas weitergemacht. Das Bild zeigt die Flügelstreben angebaut.

Nach dem Ausschneiden der Streben, muß eine umgedreht werden, damit es passt. Beim Bau muß die Teilenummer einer Strebe nach oben, die andere nach unten zeigen, dann ist es richtig.

It was given to me by a very good freind and have not had the time to start it yet.

If while you build it you could show how you use the photo etch parts in the build, that would be great.

Es wird großartig sein, Dir beim Bau dieses Modells zuzusehen. Ich habe das Modell und auch die Ätzteile. Ich habe sie von einem sehr guten Freund bekommen, hatte aber noch keine Zeit das Modell zu bauen.

Wenn Du baust, könntest Du zeigen, wie Du die Ätzteile benutzt? Das wäre toll.

Ich freue mich wirklich und werde wie ein Adler wachen, damit jeder Deiner Tipps und Hinweise eine große Hilfe ist.

The weathering is printed on the kit, also A tip for those who have the B-17 models in 1/33.

The engine is very detailed on the I-16 kit and is the same engine used in the B-17, it fits as well
In the B-17 models the engine is just a flat disc, so if you want detail its a good kit to have around!!

Ein fantastischer Bau eines gut konstruierten Modells. Ich glaube, wir müssen mehr davon sehen, wenn Du kannst.

Die Alterung ist gedruckt.

Ein Tipp für diejenigen, die die B-17 in 1:33 haben. Die Maschine der I-16 ist sehr detailliert und ist das gleiche Modell wie bei der B-17 - und sie passt auch. Bei der B-17 ist der Motor nur eine flache Scheibe. Es ist also ein gutes Modell für Detaillierung....

Hi all

Sorry about the delay in posting this, I had a major system crash due to some bad printer software

All is back to normal, but Iam watting on delivery of two new printers
The front of the canopy on this is not as good as it should be (my five year old sat on it) :))
I can not print another until the new printers get here!!

All the parts on this model went together great
The total build time for this model was five hours including laminating the formers.
For the modelers into the small scale planes this is a must 8)

He designs them so they look good and are easy build for everyone 8)

This one Nobi has not released yet, he sent me the file to see what I thought of it.
Nobi knows I like building these for my kids, they love Nobi's models as they will fly using a rubber band to launch them.

Another of his models Iam starting tonight is his C-130, its big even in 1/48 scale and well worth the $10.00 he asks for it

All that is left to do is fit the wing tanks and canopy when the glue on them has dried.
The marks under the wheels in the last photo is shadow off the wheels, my bad photos :))
