Back again 
Finnished the basic cockpit section of the build, just some paint work to do on this.
The wires that form the seat fit into the bulkheads of the cockpit to hold the seat in place. The photo of the seat is not a very good one, I will try to get a better one in daylight, if we ever get any =)

Also build the nose section so I can start to add the engine cylinders.
This is the part of the build that will take the most time to do as the cylinders have good detail and she has just one or two of them =)
As you plane guys will know this section has to be built first to fit the engine cylinders.
Yes Iam still having fun building this and so far it all fits great 8)

Hi all
Just a little up date for now
What with moving house and a lot of other stuff (line connections ect)to sort time has been very short, oh and a divorce =) =)
I have been building this in small sections to join together later, then if I don't like any part I have built or its not right I can just crush it and build another without destroying the whole model!!
These first photos are of the start of the cockpit build, the seat and some of the controls to be added yet!!

Bazzer, yup the fingers are on the mend, just can't cut 1 and 2mm card to well yet. Thats why the stall on Missouri 
before I go on with her I need to cut some real heavy card!!

Iam not a plane guy myself, (unless they are massive!!) but I do know this that when you do take a close look at these kits when built its amazing how much you can see through the windows, and yes opening the doors is another option.
At the scale Leif will build it in that becomes even more important.
I have done a lot more on this, just working out how the new camera works , as soon as I have that sorted I will post the photos later.

The kit does have an interior with it, Even at this scale it will look real good.
With the kit as it has been designed you could add a lot of extra detail without too much trouble as everything is shown as far as I know!!
The build Iam doing is the basic build as designed, this is still detailed though and well worththe time to build
Right now Iam covering the first wing and have started the cockpit area.
More in a few hours when this is done

Another thing is I think it will more than stand a upgrade in the scale As I some how think you would want to do =)
Just looking at the kit make you want to build it sooner than later, thats for shure!!

Back again =)
I started with laminating all the wing spas and ribs.
Then made the internal card rolls for the control surfaces and the strengthners to join the wings to the main body of the plane.
I will show the construction working parts as I make the others later.
To get to this stage has been easy as it is so well designed.
One tip though you must cut the parts out carefully or it will not fit
More in a few hours time =)

As you can expect from Rafal the design and graphics for this model are fantastic. The fit so far is great and I have had no problems with it at all!!
The control surfaces have been designed to work, and easy to build 
The model also has a very good engine and cockpit 8)
I will build this over the next two too three days so the posts will be close together for the build

Build reports like this, that show the faults with the old kits (and some of the new ones) and how to work round the problems are so important. What one of us thinks of the other might miss

Hi all
Well the hand is getting better and I can now use it a bit more
After cutting out the frame work for the jib I covered it in super glue to give it some strength, then glued the four parts together with normal PVA glue.
Sorry for the bad photos I dropped my camera while having a go at taking some photos, I have borrowed one to do this!!
The crane only has a base coat of paint on it now as I can't hold my hand steady enough yet to finnish it
It has a few pully wheels left to be added, another thig thats not in the original kit and the base needs more detail.
As soon as I can I will build the metal crane to replace this one but it will do for now. Even more so when you think the original could not be built at all!!
More tomorrow with ant luck =)

The next stage with the crane is to do the same with the base and the winch side of it all.
This I will do tomorrow, it took me two hours to cut ot the parts so far.
Now as for the answer to the off topic bit =)
Its the Pro-Model Vosper 72
Got to say for such a small model its been fun doing it and it all fits very well. I will be looking to build more of there kits in the future

This next photo shows the old parts next to the new re-designed parts
If you look at the old parts you can see if you folded them together there is no chance that they will match. Compare this to the new parts and it stands out!!
A not so important point is that the steel for the frame work is way to thick.
For now I will use the new parts even though they still need a lot more work to get them anything like the crane should be.
As soon as I can hold a soldering iron again I will do the metal one and see which is best.

This first photo shows the original Missouri kit parts for the crane.
If you look at a quick glance you think, not to bad, Wrong the parts don't fit and are not the right size!!
The main jib boom is not a mirror image, also the spaces between the main girders don't match up.
The next photo will show this up.

Sorry for the delay in the up date but I did slip with a large steel beam at work and did a little damage to my hand.
The finger that was cut and bent is the one I use to put the pressure on my cutting knife, oh and I bent it a little bit
The worst part, it put a stop to card cutting for a bit 
I now have it to the stage that I can do light cutting without it giving to much bother
So on to the important stuff the up date on the crane!!

Love the build and changing the scale, I will have to do this with a lot of the models I have as I only build 1/200 or larger now
The designers have to many great smaller scale models not to build them, so up wil go the scales.
Any tips would be great for us all

They look fine to me, they would be round as you have them. The masts/Samson posts or whatever had to take a large force from more than one direction, if they had been made eliptical it would have made them weak on either side when the boom swings any load.
The cab cranes are only used for light loads for speed in unloading, normaly between 1 to 2 tons per lift.
Let me know what you need on the winch side and I will get the books out for the set up..

One of the big problems with building ships/models of this size is getting a photo of the whole thing.
I only have a cheap digital camera, never got round to up grading it
This photo shows the aft superstructure, the white showing is the area to be worked on next.
After this it will be a case of filling out the decks and fiting the rails and small parts that will be hard to do at a later date!!

Jim its good to be back into building the Big Mo
You know you did a little bit more than you say, for shure!!
Last night and tonight I started marking out the psitions for the stern deck fittings and also mounted the catapults. I think these need a major re-think
You will also note that the stern has not been closed over, the reason for this is I have not worked out what crane to use. The one supplied in the kit can not be used as the parts don't even match (this I will show tomorrow)
If I go for the card/metal one I have re-designed the stern will need to have more formers fitted to take the weight of a plane hangging from it.
Also fitted the aft gun tubs, another reason for the stern not being closed off.

Another great "how to" =D>
I think I sent you a while back a tube of "151 Clear glue" to play around with, the one Barry told you I had.
I built Mike Krol's Ki-44 canopy with it and its still going strong even with the kids palying with it
The photo is the one I built using sheet plastic and the 151 glue.
I know the canopy is not so good but the glue is still holding it all together.
I built this kit in two days so Mike could use the construction photo on the CD of the model, so don't look to hard at the state of the build

Nothing has been glued to the main decks yet, I never glue anything down anymore until I have to incase I want to change it again

Up to now this is the state of the build with all the changes that have been made to date.

At this stage with the decks and hull I tought I could not do anymore damage to what I think to that date is a bad build.
So I had a go at changing the decks using the superstructure as test bed. I tried a few deck designs and bounced my ideas off Jim K who also loves this ship and kit.
Between us we came up with this??
Right before I post anymore on this I do have to say that when the kit was originaly done it was an outstanding kit.
Another big plus for this kit is, as FAR AS I KNOW no other card publisher has come up with a model of Missouri on this scale??

Well I got to this stage of the build and was not happy with the result at all.
Each time I tried to go further with the build I found more bits that did not fit or totaly out of sacle.
Here is a very good example of the out of scale parts in the kit.
Looking at the photo the paper gun in the kit and a wooden one in 1/200 do not even come close to being the same size.
The wooden one is the correct size 
The quality of the gun casement is also not very good, well I think so
