My first construction report in 2008 refers to a model that I built in the very last days of 2007. You know, my construction speed is a lot bigger during holidays :rotwerd:. Now, it is back to normal...
St. Basilius is a well known Leon kit. It is, for sure, the most colourful architecture kit that I put my hands on! See for yourself. The kit contains 8 A3 sized sheets with 228 parts, a pretty cover and a A4 sized diagram.

wo bekommt man eigentlich das Modell her? Link?Mfg

@ D-WHALE - I'm not sure to have understood you (free web translation from German to English is not straightforward :() but I bought this model at moduni, some time ago. It seems that the model is no longer available there but you can get it at Instant Durable, here:
http://www.instantdurable.com/…ccueil_franglais_menu.htm
The model is built around a central core (parts A) and that is supposed to be the first assembly.

The domes are the very pretty indeed! There are 4 big, 2 medium, 3 small a very small one, for the central tower. Each dome, apart from the tip, has a single part. It is an octagon surrounded by 8 slices. They are readily visible in the kit's picture. I choose to make a hole in the base (to have access for a finger or something smaller...) and reinforced the base with a bit of card. With this layout, it is better to glue the slices in sequence. The most difficult one is, not surprisingly, the last...

The four bigger domes sit atop octagonal towers. 3 of them are quite similar. The fourth (to the left, in the picture) has some different details.

Some more towers and the pretty domes

Hallo Ricleite,
Möwe Verlag, Wilhelmshaven also sells or sold the basilika. I wish You a pleasant working time for this model.best greetings
modellschiff -
Beautiful work with the domes Ricardo. A feast for the eyes.
Enjoying this build very much.
John -
@ modellschiff - that is good news for D-WHALE and anyone who wishes to build this pretty cathedral
Nice to hear from you, John The bad news is that the fit is much worse than the colours. I had a lot o trouble with the roofs, particularly the big one. Gluing the four cylindrical towers first was a bad idea. I had to reposition them latter The problem is that, as they have a conical lower section, the base is bigger than the corresponding hole in the roof. They should be put in place first but glued only after checking the position with the roof holes. Not easy. On the other hand, it was a good idea to leave the central tower apart and glue it after the roof...

Hello Ricleite!
You`re right! The St. Basilius Cathedral is really one of the most wonderful Cathedrals in the world! I had the chanche to visit it in 2002. In real the colours are even more fantastic than in print!
Best wishes an a lot of fun buildig th St. Basilius!Regards, Klebär (gluebear) !

Not easy, Klebär, not easy! But I believe you
The model is complete. I enclose some pictures of it... -
And some more pictures.
My next model will be another Merino: Catedral de Palencia -
Ricardo
A lovely build of a lovely model of a lovely cathedral!
Rather selfishly, I am rather pleased that you too experienced some fit problems - it wasn't just my incompetence giving me trouble. You seem to have coped magnificently though, as always.

Hi Ricardo,
the model looks really nice! I have the one from Domus. Maybe, I will build it after the Blue Mosque is finished. -
Thanks for your comments
AlanG, I don't know what incompetence you are talking about Maybe some (good) kind of British humour
günter, the Domus kit looks so similar that, apart from one of the dome's colours, I 'd say it is the same!!! Can you tell me where you got your copy? I trying to find another Domus kit - Barcelona's Sagrada Familia, and it looks impossible to get. Moduni no longer sells Domus kits and Domus itself doesn't seem to work. I have already tried to contact them, without success
-
Hi Ricleite,
sorry, I don't know were I bought the model ?(, I bought it some years ago, maybe in Italy. Domus seem to sell their models out: http://www.edidomus.it/store/domuskit.cfmGreetings

Great work, wonderful model. Very impressing!!

Ricardo-san,
Seeing your build, I am spellbound.
Next to train, I am completely influenced by you and want to start building architecture. Ah, before that I must complete steam locomotive :rotwerd: -
Thanks for the link, günter :super: I had already got to the Domus site but not to this shop. I really want to get that model - no less than 825 parts and a completely crazy architecture, miam, miam =)
@ Yu - that particular steam locomotive you talk about is now also on my huge stockpile of models to build :prost:
I don't intend to start it soon, however Maybe it will be wiser to leave you to find all the pitfalls first :rotwerd:
@ Glue me! - thanks for the post and greetings from Portugal -

I want you to wait for a while until I complete that particular steam locomotive build and people forget what I have made so that I could see your god-hand build of the same locomotive avoiding embarrassment and assuming calm air 8)
OK Neh?
BTW, I don't think you walk into a pitfall without a pilot engine -
Yu, I joyfully acknowledge that your legendary sense of humour wasn't in any way dented by the long business trip
More seriously, this Christmas I got the 3 newer Modelik train subjects - Px-48, Cid wagons and the Orenstein Cn2t. All of them look very good. Having in mind that I built a big train subject last year, maybe this year is a good one for the Cn2t. That's because it is, by far, the smallest of the 3 :rotwerd:
Anyway, it is not for tomorrow. I have the Palencia Catedral in the workshop, an eye on one or two more Merinos (Palma and Leon cathedrals), Instant Durable's Florence cathedral, perhaps GPM's newer midget submarines, maybe a plane or two, something from the Golden Book of Paper Models, hopefully Schreiber's Petersdom What? I am already in December :(. OK, it is very probable that the new train, whatever it is, will arrive late -
