My next model is very well known - it is Halinski's Bf-109 F4.
If you remember, I had somewhat mixed feelings about the F-117 from the same stable. This kit is more recent and surely looks more 'polished'. In fact, it looks really good!
Being a WW2 German subject, I'll have some 'difficulties' showing it. Fortunately, I have already checked that it is easy to brush over a particular sign...

I'm there - as always =)

You can always make a round patch with drafting tape, and remove it later. This will be a pleasure to follow, though I am still hoping to see you do a locomotive soon
-
@ Henni - you are most welcome
@ Royaloakmin - hmm, I'm a bit wary of using tape. It may end up removing some of the paint with it 'Digital tape' should do the trick
I have already posted pictures of a big locomotive here:
Modelik Od2 (P4.2) [FERTIG]
It was back in 2007! Yes, I have to build another. Soon! The cockpit is full of nice details. Today's pictures are just the first ones...
-
More cockpit details...
-
For the tyres, I used the usual method - rolled paper strips.
-
I love to see beautiful builded details.
For that I'll follow even this aircraft modelling... -
Hi Ricleite,
very impressive work! Conratulations =D>
However, what's this usual method about rolled paper strips?
Does it mean, that you don't use the general Halinski procedere gluing together different disc diameters?
I want to learn more about your method.
ThanX
Peter -
Hi Ric,
I will follow your report as usual......looking forward to another Masterpiece of Card modeling
Greetz,
Stephan
-
Thank you all
@ Cyber Pepe when I say usual, I mean usual for me :rotwerd:. I dont know if the method was used before but I devised it last year, when building the Lightning. You can see it here:
[Fertig] BAC Lightning - Fly Model (1:33)
The trick is to calculate the shape of a paper strip so that, when rolled, it becomes a tyre. It may sound complicated but it is not. I prefer it to the usual (for kit editors) method of gluing card circles and shaping them latter, with some kind of turning machine. The paper strip is more paperWell, getting back to the cockpit
-
The gunsight is another example of an Haliski detail. A pretty one, if you ask me
-
Hi Ricleite,
Now I see - thanX for letting me know
Your method sounds very interesting and I'll try it next time I need to build tires.
Please go ahead with your perfect build.
Cheers

The structure is is almost complete. Next, I'll get back to the cockpit.
The third picture is just a fit test, that went well :). The wings are not yet glued to the fuselage. -
Hi Ricleite,
your model of this Bf-109 looks very promising und extraordinary clean and exactly built so far... =D> Do continue to build the Messerschmitt in this way, :genau: I am expecting the progress...
kind regards
frettchen
-
@ Frettchen Thank you, Ill try to keep it that way
The cockpit is complete. I had no problems with the walls fit, which should be a good sign for the future
-
Hello Ric,
beautiful work - as always.

Not crude, Norm, not crude. Just BIG
-
Oh man...another master-built by ricleite....great and absolutely neat building report.
I could not even reach a quarter of this perfectionGreat, go on.....we want more
Greetings

Glad you like it, Stephan
More is coming Namely, flaps and ailerons. Contrary to what happened on the F-117, these ones have a proper structure inside and that makes construction much easier. -
Getting a resonably curved leading edge on the horizontal tail is a bit tricky. It might be easier if part W9d extended up to the leading edge...
Well, that's what I managed to get. -
Hello Ricleite,
this is not reasonable, it is perfect !
Zaphod
-
Thanks, Zaphod
After the colourful rudder, I went to the wing radiators. Once again, I think Halinski did a very good job. The colour effects are great and the fit is just fine! -
The wing radiators are integrated with the flaps. They have some more parts, easy to assemble.
-
The fuselage radiator is a bit tricky because the lateral walls should be gently curved at the fuselage junction. That is not clear in the drawings but it is rather easy to solve latter.
-
The main landing gear was a piece of cake Somewhat to my surprise, it proved easy to roll the reasonably thick paper. It would be a lot harder with GPM thicker paper...
-
Excellent build! And very high quality photography documenting it. I am looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. So far, a very high level of skill is being demonstrated here.
-
The landing gears.....absoluteley awesome !!!
I never suggested, that landing gears could ever be "beautiful"Greetz

Many thanks for your comments
After the rather tedious exhausts, it is time to start putting everything together. -
Lovely work, Ric. You have a deft touch with aircraft.
-
Thanks, Royaloakmin
Well, I had to censor a couple of pictures, for obvious reasons :(... -
Today's first picture shows a little trick to ease the gun recesses assembly. A bit of card is often very useful to put glue on...
-
Exquisite work beautifully photographed Ricardo.
A great tip of providing extra purchase around an opening for a part by thickening the paper rim. Templates strike again, but a little differently this time. Good stuff!
Cheers...John
-
@ John in fact, this card template also works as a shelf :). A narrow one, with just 0,5mm
The air filter is a rather complicated and small assembly. I choose to let the doors partially open. -

Well, I had to censor a couple of pictures, for obvious reasons :(...And for that, I would like to thank you very much!
The air-filter looks great - without the coin the size of some parts and the quality of your build would not be illustrated.
A fine construction, an even finer build - keep up this great work!

-
@ Rutzes - thanks for your comment I like to play by the rules, whether I like them or not...
@ Dansls - I used the same method to fix the landing gear wells. The only problem is to avoid overlapping the auxiliary card parts with the wing structure. -
Ricleite's kickin' ass with his models. Awesome.
-
I'll join to all the good words. Perfect building! Nice to see each photo! AWSOME!!
-
I am grinding my skill secretly but got stuck and an idea came to me in a flash that now what I need is your neat build sample for image training by haunting it again and again like I did when you built steam locomotive long time ago.
