Hallo Kartonisten,
heute will ich euch den Leuchtturm von Block Island im USA-Staat Rhode Island (im Nordwesten der USA) vorstellen. Block Island hat zwei Leuchttürme, dieser hier und das "Nordlicht" (Northlight), beide Leuchttürme findet bzw. fand man in einem Bausatz, der von der Block Island Historical Society herausgegeben wurde. Das bemerkenswerte am Southeast Leuchtturm ist, dass er wegen Küstenabbruch für schlappe 2 Millionen Dollar 100m ins Inselinnere transportiert wurde.
Der Bausatz ist graphisch recht ordentlich, die Passgenauigkeit so lala. Ich hatte Mühe, den Turm an den Verbindungsbau und den Anbau an das Haupthaus anzufügen. Für die Fenster, die Laterne und den Umgang habe ich mir eine Menge Ätzteile gezeichnet und ätzen lassen, was eine relativ teure Angelegenheit war, da ich die Schiebefenster aus je 3 Ätzteilen + 2 Fensterfolien aufgebaut habe. Die Fresnellinse besteht aus einer neu angefertigten Zeichnung, die ich auf Overheadfolie mit dem Laserprinter aufgedruckt und rund gebogen habe. Innen sitzt noch eine Lampenattrappe und ein Drehreflektor. Die Veranda ist aus mehreren Schichten weißer Karton aufgebaut. Die Grundfläche ist Sperrholz mit H0-Grasmatte und Sand.

Today I would like to present you the Block Island Lighthouse, Rhode Island. There are two lighthouses at Block Island, here we have got the Northlight. Both lighthouse models were presented in one kit published by the Block Island Historical Society. A remarkable fact is that the Northtlight was moved about 100 yards to the inland, costs: a mere 2.000.000 dollars.
The kit is graphically nice, the accuracy more a bit so-so-ta-ta. There were some difficulties to get the tower to the connecting part and the connecting part to the main part of the building properly. I have made a lot of drawings for the foto-etched parts, which were later on foto-etched. It became a bit costful because I composed the window frames out of three foto-etched parts plus 2 transparent window sheets. The lantern framing and the railings were also foto-etched. The Fresnel-lense was newly drawn, manufacturing these was done by using overheadsheets, printing was done on a laserprinter. Finally these parts were curved. A mock-up lamp plus reflector were fitted into the inside of the lense. The veranda is built out of multiple layers of white cardboard. The base is made out of triplex, with lawn and sand supplied by the railroad modelling store.
