31st street gatekeepers tower, Clever Bros, 1:87

Ich bin schon recht lange Mitglied im Forum und habe manchmal intensiv mitgelesen, dann wieder gar nicht, nun habe ich mir einmal einen Anlauf genommen und ein Modell vorgenommen, das ich hier in Chicago in einem Modellbaufachgeschaeft (ja, die Tastatur ist auch englisch ausgelegt, mir fehlt zur Zeit das"ae" und auch Y und Z sind nicht am richtigen Platz, aber ich wollte einmal darauflosbauen) gekauft habe.
I am quite a long time a member of this forum and sometimes I read quite often, sometimes I had been absent for quite a long time, but now I jumpstarted myself and started to build a model, which I purchased here in Chicago in a hobby shop - I am writing on a computer with English keyboard, where also the keys are not in there "right" place, for example the Y and the Z, as well as the German "ae" is missing.

Ich habe mir das Modell "31st street gatekeepers tower" vorgenommen, das von der Firma CLEVER BROS. unter der Artikelnummer STHO-GTHS-06 vertrieben wird und fuer 14.00 USD wohlfeil zu erstehen war.
I started to build the model "31st street gatekeepers tower" which is produced and distributed by the company CLEVER BROS. as model number STHO-GTHS-06. I purchased the kit for USD 14.00 which is a fair sum, I guess.

Dem Deckblatt ist zu entnehmen, dass das Modell fuer den Massstab 0 konstruiert worden ist und auf H0 dimensioniert worden ist.
From the first sheet of the kit you can see that the kit was drawn for 0 scale and had been rightsized for H0.

Da es von diesem kleinen Gebaeude, das im Original in Holzbauweise errichtet worden ist, auch Holzmodelle gibt und ich auch schon einen Plastikmodellbausatz gesehen habe, scheint es sich in den Vereinigten Staaten entweder um ein gut bekanntes Gebaeude oder um einen weit verbreiteten Typ zu handeln.
I have seen also a wood kit as well as a plastic kit, so I guess, that the gatekeepers tower, originally build as a wooden structure, is either a well known building throughout the US or is a widespread type.

Wie auf dem Bild ersichtlich ist, arbeite ich auf einer relativ kleinen Schneidmatte, die noch dazu mit dem Zollmass markiert ist, was aber im Prinzip kein Problem ist, da man sich rasch angewoehnt, 2/5 Zoll etwa 1 cm gleichzuhalten
As you can see from the picture I am using a quite small mat, which is marked according to the inch scale, which is not that big a problem, as you will quite soon get accustomed to the idea that 2/5 inch are somehow equal to 1 cm.

Es handelt sich um die Bodenplatte, die Seitenwaende und die Decke zum ersten Stock, die bereits ausgeschnitten vor dem Betrachter liegen.
You can see the ground floor, the walls of the ground floor and the ceiling between ground floor and first floor, which had been already cut.

Auf diesem Bild sieht man das fertiggestellte Erdgeschoss des Gebaeudes, und zum leichteren Vergleich habe ich ein H0-Modell eines US-Mail-Lastwagens neben das Gebaude gestellt.
On the following picture you can see the assembled ground floor of the building. In order to get an idea of the dimensions I put a H0-model of a US-mail-truck beneath the building.

Im naechsten Bild sieht man die Teile des oberen Stockwerks, dessen Fenster einen Rundum-Blick ermoeglichen, und das ueber eine freistehende Holztreppe erreicht werden kann.
Now you can see the parts of the upper floor, where windows all around enable you to look into all directions, and which can be entered by a wooden staircase outside the building.

Fast alle Teile fuer Erdgeschoss und ersten Stock sind hergestellt, auch die Holztreppe zeigt sich bereits.
Almost all parts for the ground floor and the upper floor are done, also the staircase can be seen.

Auf diesem Bild sieht man das erste Mal eine Stellprobe mit dem Erdgeschoss und dem ersten Stock sowie mit den Teilen der Treppe. Da ich beim Verkleben der Teile fuer die Treppe ein wenig zuviel Klebstoff verwendet habe, war das Ausschneiden eine ziemlich zähe Fuzzelei, aber letztendlich hat es geklappt.
Diesesmal werden die fleissigen Baumeister direkt vom Bierwagen versorgt, die Post ist schon abgefahren.
On the following picture you can see for the first time the ground floor and the first floor loosely put together, as well as the parts of the staircase.
I have used a lot of glue for glueing the parts of the staircase together, so the cutting had been a mess, but in the end it was done.
This time the construction workers are maintained by an ale truck, the mail truck has already left the scene.

Heute geht es nur einen kleinen Schritt weiter: Die Teile der Freitreppe sind einmal ausgeschnitten und warten auf das Verkleben.
Today we will only see a small step forward: the parts of the staircase had been cut and are prepared for glueing.

Im vorletzten Baubericht zum gatekeepers tower sieht man nun den fertigen Turm mit der angebauten Treppe, die vom Bauingenieur in Augenschein genommen wird. Die Figur stammt aus dem Sortiment "dockworkers" von Woodland Scenics. Der gatekeepers tower wird spaeter in einem Diorama Aufstellung finden, zu dem noch andere Bausaetze der Firma Clever Bros hinzugebaut werden. Das Motiv des Dioramas ist Kleinindustrie irgendwo in den Weiten der Vereinigten Staaten.

Just one construction report of the 31st street gatekeepers tower is to come (number 08), now you can see the construction engineer inspecting the structure. The figure is from Woodland Scenics "dockworkers" group. The gatekeepers tower will later be added to a diorama consisting of other Clever Bros kits. The idea is to show a sample of small industries located somewhere in the US.
